Russia has suspended all export licenses for ammonium nitrate nitrogen fertilisers from March 21 to April 21, prioritizing domestic spring planting amid global supply disruptions stemming from the war in Iran and constrained production capacity.
MOSCOW, March 24 (Reuters) - Russia has imposed restrictions on the export of nitrogen fertilisers from March 21 to April 21 to ensure sufficient supply during the spring planting season, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Russia is a major fertiliser producer and exporter but lacks the capacity to significantly increase production this year amid global supply crunch caused by the war in Iran.
The Agriculture Ministry said it had stopped all issued licenses for export of ammonium nitrate and will not issue new ones with an exception made only for government contracts.
"In the context of growing export demand for nitrogen fertilizers, the suspension of their supplies abroad will allow prioritizing the needs of the domestic market during the spring fieldwork season and ensuring its uninterrupted execution," the ministry said.
