The Netherlands will send the air defence and command frigate HNLMS Evertsen to the eastern Mediterranean to protect Cyprus, at France’s request, joining a growing European naval deployment amid escalating Middle East tensions.
AMSTERDAM, March 9 (Reuters) - The Dutch government on Monday said it would send a frigate to the Mediterranean at France's request to help protect Cyprus and other allies and secure maritime traffic imperilled by the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
The government said last week that France had asked it to provide an air defence and command frigate to support the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier that President Emmanuel Macron said would be sent to the Mediterranean.

The Netherlands is sending a frigate at France's request to protect Cyprus and other allies and secure maritime traffic threatened by the Middle East crisis.
France requested the Netherlands to provide an air defence and command frigate to support the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier.
The frigate's mission is to help protect allies such as Cyprus and ensure the security of maritime routes amid regional tensions.
The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, deployed by France, will be supported by the Dutch frigate to enhance defence and command capabilities in the region.
