Set up in 2003 by founder and director Stephen Robertson, and supported by a team of dedicated and experienced professionals, Metis Partners has become the go-to for strategic and insightful IP advice. Covering UK and international markets, Metis Partners has established offices in Glasgow and Berkeley, California.

Our Advisory team are experts in identifying key IP assets which underpin a company’s competitive advantage and providing strategic advice to help companies protect and leverage those IP assets. Our key offerings include IP Valuations, IP Due Diligence service, IP Audits and “Health Checks”, Virtual Chief IP Officer (vCIPO) services as well as bespoke IP Strategy services to meet clients’ specific needs.

Metis Partners’ Corporate Recovery team is the UK’s only dedicated team focusing on valuing and selling intellectual property assets from insolvent and distressed scenarios.

Metis logo blackOur expertise in helping companies and third party professionals identify and leverage critical IP assets has frequently been commended. We have won numerous awards which recognise both the skills and experience of our team, as well as a number of noteworthy deals and transactions we have been involved in. Some notable nominations include acknowledging Stephen Robertson as one of the “world’s 300 leading IP strategists” by IAM Magazine and winning M&A International, ACQ and Insolvency & Rescue awards.

Metis Partners has recently taken on some exciting projects. In 2014, we produced a guidance report focussed on “Improved support for SMEs in the field of IP” for World Intellectual Property Office (“WIPO”), devised a feasibility study on using IP assets as security for SMEs to access debt based finance for Scottish Enterprise and expanded company’s IP Due Diligence offerings, bridging the gap between financial and legal diligence.  Metis Partners pictureThis product is focused on helping banks, private equity firms and venture capitalists “get to grips” with a target company’s reliance on IP assets in order to understand if those IP assets are well-secured as assets of the business, and whether they offer a robust and scalable competitive advantage/freedom to operate.

Metis Partners also has a strong commitment to employing student interns and building links with local universities. We believe that our interns keep our office vibrant and fresh, but most importantly we recognise complementary skills and energy that our interns can provide. In the past few years, we have employed over 20 paid interns, all of whom have gone on to high quality graduate roles with major employers.

Recent deals: Supported Clydesdale Bank Growth Finance team, Boost&Co., Energy Ventures, Front Row Energy Partners, P2i and Plastic Logic.

Sold IP assets of Internacionale, Secure Electrans, WeeWorld, Ortak & Barnsby.
