Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Laura R. Biddle has joined the firm as a partner in the Regulatory Practice in the Washington, DC office. Ms. Biddle advises domestic and foreign banking organizations, specialty finance firms, non-depository lenders, providers of payment, and other providers of financial products and services on all aspects of financial services regulations.

Ms. Biddle has 20 years of financial services regulatory experience helping financial institutions adapt and grow in the complex and evolving regulatory environment. She advises banks; their holding companies, subsidiaries, and affiliates; and investors with corporate governance, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, chartering and licensing, permissible activities and investments, pre-emption, affiliate transaction, controlling and noncontrolling investments, and new product development. She represents financial institutions and non-bank companies of all types on financial technology (FinTech), emerging payments, supervisory-related issues, including examinations, regulatory investigations, and enforcement actions, U.S. anti-money laundering laws, Dodd-Frank implementation, margin regulation compliance, consumer compliance, and state licensing laws. She has worked closely with federal banking regulators at the Federal Reserve, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC), as well as with numerous state banking agencies.

Lawrence Norton, chair of Venable’s Government Division, said, “Laura’s experience working in the financial services industry and her knowledge of federal agencies in that sector will be an added benefit as clients continue to seek us out as they face daunting regulatory challenges.”

Commenting on her move to Venable, Ms. Biddle said, “Venable knows Washington’s regulatory environment from the inside out. Their attorneys and legislative advisors monitor the regulatory horizon with an eagle’s eye, anticipating rough spots banks and other financial institutions may face and helping to shape regulatory policy. It will offer me the perfect platform to grow my practice.”

Ms. Biddle received her J.D. from The Catholic University in 1996 and her B.B.A. from The College of William and Mary in 1988.
