France, Britain, and Germany aim to renew diplomacy with Iran over its nuclear program, despite recent UN sanctions. Talks are hoped to occur by year-end.
PARIS (Reuters) -France, Britain and Germany want to re-open the door of diplomacy with Iran over its contested nuclear programme, France's foreign ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Pascal Confavreux told reporters that despite the Europeans pushing for the return of United Nations sanctions in September, those three powers had always wanted to maintain dialogue with Iran.
Three diplomats have said the powers are hoping to hold talks with Iran before the end of the year, although it is not clear whether Tehran is open to them in the immediate term.

United Nations sanctions are measures imposed by the UN Security Council to maintain or restore international peace and security, which can include economic restrictions, trade embargoes, or travel bans.
A contested nuclear program is a nuclear initiative that faces opposition or scrutiny from other nations or international bodies, often due to concerns about its potential for weaponization or non-compliance with treaties.
