Germany urged Iran to curb its nuclear and missile programs and avoid regional destabilization ahead of Geneva talks. Berlin expects constructive engagement as U.S. envoys prepare to meet the Iranian side.
BERLIN, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Germany is urging Iran to stop seeking nuclear weapons, to restrict its ballistic missile programme and to cease destabilising the wider region, a foreign office spokesperson said on Wednesday, ahead of fresh nuclear talks in Geneva.
"We expect Iran to seize the opportunity to engage constructively in the (Geneva) talks," the spokesperson said.
The talks are set to take place on Thursday in Geneva, a senior U.S. official said on Monday, with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner slated to meet with the Iranian delegation for the negotiations.

Germany called on Iran to curb its nuclear and missile activities and to avoid destabilizing the region ahead of nuclear talks in Geneva.
Iranian officials and U.S. envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are slated for the Geneva negotiations.
Progress or setbacks in the talks could move oil prices, safe‑haven assets and regional risk premiums tied to Middle East tensions.
