EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said ministers are unlikely to agree Monday on a new Russia sanctions package, as Hungary maintains its opposition in Brussels.
BRUSSELS, Feb 23 (Reuters) - EU countries will likely not reach an agreement on the proposed new package of sanctions against Russia on Monday, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.
Continued resistance from Hungary has made it clear that consensus on the proposed measures will not be reached at a meeting of EU ministers of foreign affairs on Monday, Kallas told reporters before the meeting.

EU ministers are unlikely to agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia, according to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Hungary continues to oppose elements of the proposed sanctions, preventing the unanimity required among EU member states.
The comments were made ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Monday, Feb 23, 2026.
