In a CBS Face the Nation interview, ECB President Christine Lagarde said her baseline is to serve until October 2027, citing progress toward the 2% inflation target and resilient growth amid early-exit speculation.
WASHINGTON, Feb 22 (Reuters) - European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said it was her "baseline" plan to work until the end of her current term to bolster the gains she says the euro zone has made on her watch in achieving its 2% inflation target and maintaining resilient growth.
"I'm riveted to a mission...We've achieved a lot," Lagarde said on CBS's "Face the Nation" in response to questions about whether she might leave before the Oct. 2027 end of her term so her successor can be chosen prior to French elections that could put a right-"wing populist party in charge. "We need to consolidate all that. My baseline is that it will take until the end of my term. Electors in any country in the world make their choices, and those choices have to be respected."

ECB President Christine Lagarde said her baseline is to remain in office through October 2027, stressing continuity in her mission and recent progress on inflation and growth.
Her non-renewable term runs through October 2027.
Reports suggested she could leave before France’s 2027 election to influence succession, but she emphasized respecting voters’ choices and said her baseline is to finish the term.
