Alexander “Sasha” Galitsky is a figure of innovation, vision, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Born on February 9, 1955, in the modest village of Zarechany, Zhytomyr Region, Ukrainian SSR, Galitsky’s journey from a bright, inquisitive child to a global technology titan is proof of the fruits of perseverance and the unwavering spirit of an inventor.
Early Years and Foundation
From an early age, Galitsky showed a strong interest in science and technology. After graduating from high school with honors, he pursued higher education with a focus on theoretical physics and computer science. He attended the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET), where he deepened his knowledge in these areas. His time at MIET and later work at the Zelenograd Scientific Research Institute of Microdevices allowed him to apply theoretical concepts to practical technology solutions. Galitsky completed his education with a PhD in Technical Cybernetics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, setting a solid foundation for his future career.
Career and Achievements
Galitsky’s career is marked by his work in Wi-Fi and VPN technologies, alongside significant advancements in cybersecurity and global technology development. Before stepping into venture capitalism, he was a technical executive for the Soviet Space Agency, which shows his early influence on technology and innovation.
As a venture capitalist, Galitsky was instrumental in launching Almaz Capital I, II, and III, under the initiative of Cisco, which selected him as the fund’s Co-founder and Managing Partner. Under his leadership, Almaz Capital has made notable investments in companies such as Yandex (IPO NASDAQ), QIK (sold to Skype), Sensity Systems (sold to Verizon Communications), Acumatica (sold to EQT), and Xometry (IPO NASDAQ), among others.
Galitsky has also played a key role in promoting technology and innovation across Eastern Europe. He served as President of the South East Europe Tech Tour in 2019 and the East Europe Tech Tour in 2018, as well as the first Russian Tech Tour in 2004.
His contributions have been recognized globally, with accolades such as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in Russia in 2013, the Venture Awards Best GP of 2013, and being named a “Technology Pioneer” at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2000.
