Germany expects a 15% U.S. tariff on pharmaceuticals and heavy trucks, impacting trade relations. The U.S. announced new tariffs, causing trade uncertainty.
BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany expects the United States to apply a 15% tariff rate to pharmaceuticals and heavy trucks, a government spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Monday.
U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping new import tariffs last week, including 100% duties on patented drugs and 25% levies on heavy-duty trucks, triggering fresh trade uncertainty.
A White House official later said the administration would honor 15% caps on tariffs for imported pharmaceuticals under patent for countries with trade deals that specified such reductions.

Heavy trucks are large motor vehicles designed primarily for transporting goods. They include various types such as freight trucks, tractor-trailers, and delivery trucks.
Tariffs can increase the cost of imported goods, making them less competitive compared to domestic products. This can lead to reduced trade volumes and affect international relations.
Trade uncertainty refers to the unpredictability in trade policies and regulations that can affect businesses' decisions regarding imports and exports.
