Germany's cartel office criticizes Amazon's price control mechanisms, citing potential abuse. Amazon disagrees, emphasizing competitive pricing benefits.
BERLIN (Reuters) -Germany's federal cartel office on Monday expressed concern about Amazon's use of so-called price control mechanisms, saying in a statement that "this could constitute an abuse under the special provisions for large digital companies."
A spokesperson for Amazon responded by saying that the company did "not agree with the Bundeskartellamt's assessment in any way."
"If Amazon is now prevented from helping customers find competitive deals, it will lead to a poor shopping experience as we would have to favour uncompetitive or even abusive prices in our store," the spokesperson said.
