MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez plans to travel to Ukraine on Monday to support President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the Ukrainian democracy, he said on Thursday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump called Zelenskiy a "dictator".
Trump's remarks and his change of U.S. policy on the three-year war in Ukraine heightened concerns among U.S. allies in Europe that his approach to ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict could benefit Moscow.
"I'll be in Kyiv on Monday to reaffirm Spain's support for the Ukrainian democracy and President Zelenskiy," Sanchez wrote in a post on social media platform X.
Trump has also claimed Ukraine was to blame for Russia's 2022 invasion, and his administration opened talks over a peace agreement directly with the Kremlin, without including Ukraine or European partners.
