Israeli Military Eliminates Suspect in West Bank Attack

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -The Israeli military said on Saturday that it killed a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank among a group suspected of being involved in an attack that killed a pregnant Israeli settler as she travelled to hospital to give birth this week.

The woman, Tzeela Gez, was shot on Wednesday near the Brukhin settlement and pronounced dead at the hospital where her baby was delivered by caesarean section.

On Saturday, the military said several males suspected of involvement in the attack had been apprehended in the West Bank.

During the apprehension, one of the suspects "was identified running toward the forces while holding a backpack suspected of being booby-trapped" and shouting, the military said.

"In response to the immediate threat, the soldiers eliminated" the suspect, it added.

Separately, Israel's military said it had also killed five Palestinian militants in the West Bank on Thursday.

The West Bank, where hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers live among around 3 million Palestinians in territory Israel captured in a 1967 war, has seen an intensification of unrest in recent weeks as Israel mounts military operations against militants.
