A Dutch court has ordered Meta to provide simpler timeline options on Facebook and Instagram, complying with the EU's Digital Services Act.
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -A Dutch court on Thursday ordered Meta Platforms to offer users of its Facebook and Instagram platforms simpler options for a timeline that is not based on profiling.
The court said parts of the design of both platforms were not in line with the European Union's Digital Services Act. It gave Meta two weeks to offer users a "direct and simple" way to opt out of a timeline with recommended content.
Meta did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The Digital Services Act is a European Union regulation aimed at creating a safer digital space by establishing rules for online platforms, ensuring user protection, and promoting accountability for content moderation.
User profiling involves collecting and analyzing data about users' behaviors, preferences, and demographics to create personalized experiences or targeted advertising.
A timeline in social media refers to the chronological display of posts, updates, and content shared by users or recommended by the platform, often influenced by algorithms.
