French political crisis could trigger recession fears, warns Carrefour CEO. Consumer sentiment is affected by state stability, impacting economic decisions.
PARIS -French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou's decision to hold a confidence vote will weigh on consumer mood and could bring back recession fears, the head of the country's largest retailer Carrefour said on Wednesday.
"Our morale is tied to the functioning of the state," Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard said at a business conference.
"The more uncertainty there is, like it's the case right now, the higher the risk of a strong hit on the economy as consumers postpone their spending decisions," Bompard added.
