UniCredit has increased its stake in Commerzbank to 20.17%, with plans to reach 29%, indicating a strategic merger effort.
FRANKFURT (Reuters) -UniCredit's equity stake in Germany's Commerzbank edged up to 20.17% from 19.20%, a filing showed on Tuesday, as the Italian bank pushes for a tie-up between the two lenders.
On July 8, UniCredit announced that it had doubled its stake in Commerzbank to "around 20%" and that it intends "in due course" to increase its equity stake to "around 29%".
