London Underground workers will strike for seven days in September over pay and working conditions, with RMT union seeking negotiations.
LONDON (Reuters) -London Underground workers will stage rolling strikes for seven days next month in a dispute over pay and working conditions, railway trade union RMT said on Thursday.
The strikes, starting from September 5, will see different grades of staff taking industrial action at differing times, and is part of a dispute over pay, fatigue management, shift patterns and a reduction in the working week, the RMT said.
In a separate dispute, workers on the Docklands Light Railway, which connects the financial centres of Canary Wharf and the City of London, will also be striking in the week beginning September 7, the union added.
"Our members ... are not after a King's ransom, but fatigue and extreme shift rotations are serious issues impacting on our members health and wellbeing," RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said.
Dempsey said the union would continue to engage with London Underground to reach a negotiated settlement.

Industrial action refers to activities undertaken by workers, often organized by trade unions, to protest against working conditions, pay, or other employment issues.
A trade union is an organization of workers that aims to protect their rights and interests, often negotiating with employers on issues like pay and working conditions.
Working conditions encompass the environment and terms under which employees work, including safety, hours, and pay, which can significantly impact employee well-being.
