Tesla's UK car sales remained flat in September, while the UK EV market grew by 20.8%. Elon Musk's political views may be affecting Tesla's European sales.
(Reuters) -Tesla's UK car sales were nearly flat in September, compared with a year earlier, while the overall UK electric vehicle market saw strong growth, data from New AutoMotive showed on Friday.
There were 8,038 new Tesla UK registrations in September, up just 0.11% from a year earlier, the data showed.
Backlash against Tesla CEO Elon Musk's political stance has hurt the company's sales in the European market.
Overall, new registrations last month for battery electric vehicles in Britain jumped 20.8% year-on-year to 69,569 units, according to New AutoMotive.
"Drivers are switching to electric in their thousands, even as adoption naturally ebbs and flows with seasonality, model launches, economic confidence and charging perceptions," Tanya Sinclair, CEO of Electric Vehicles UK, said in a statement.
