An earthquake is the shaking of the Earth's surface caused by a sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves.
The magnitude scale is a logarithmic scale used to measure the size or energy released by an earthquake, with each whole number increase representing a tenfold increase in measured amplitude.
Seismic activity refers to the frequency and intensity of earthquakes in a particular area, indicating the geological stability or instability of that region.
