THE DESTINATIONS MOST LIKELY TO RESULT IN A HOLIDAY ILLNESS

THE DESTINATIONS MOST LIKELY TO RESULT IN A HOLIDAY ILLNESS

GBFR Unique Intro:

It’s no fun to be ill, even worse when you are on holiday. Yet previous statistics show that one in four holidaymakers will suffer food poisoning while away and one in six will be admitted to hospital.

According to travel insurance reports, 4,300 people a week use their travel insurance to seek medical treatment whilst abroad. Hotspot destinations include Mexico, Dominican Republic, Spain, Morocco, Egypt and India to name only a few, and illnesses vary from a reaction to unknown foods, to food poisoning and more serious conditions contracted from contaminated food and water or insect bites. The whole business is so unpleasant that only 3% of travellers will return to a destination where they have been taken ill, 40% say hygiene concerns will affect their decision to visit and 43% will choose self-catering because they feel it’s safer.

While the figures above might look scary, hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers will travel without any issues and, if you follow simple measures, you can also decrease your chances of running into any trouble. Citybase Apartments’ latest infographic looks at some simple steps you can follow to make sure your holiday goes unspoiled.
