Geek Street: Infosecurity Europe’s Newest Feature

Europe’s no.1 information security event, Infosecurity Europe, is launching a brand-new feature for 2018 called “Geek Street” – an immersive zone where information security practitioners will share their expertise in a series of in-depth, independent and technical research sessions.   Designed to enable visitors to delve into the latest security research into exploits, vulnerabilities and threats, the Geek Street programme will include:

• Security is an Illusion: How I Rob Banks: presented by ethical hacker and social engineer, Freaky Clown, who will be taking the audience on a light-hearted trip through the security failures, both physical and electronic, that have enabled him over the years to circumvent security of the world’s largest banks
• Hacking the World’s Most Secure Communications Protocol: presented by security researcher Scott Helme, who will address issues around companies failing to deliver on promises of security, online services leaking data and devices we are bring in to our homes betraying us
• Time of Death? A Therapeutic Post-Mortem for Medical Infrastructure: with medical infrastructure a highly sought-after target for motivated cybercriminals, Kaspersky Lab Security Researcher Denis Makrushin will show how the attackers appears in medical network, what is already happening there and the kind of technologies that will be useful in battle against medical threats to protect patient-doctor confidentiality
• Hardware Hacking: What Can Adult Toys Tell Us About the State of the IoT?:hacking adult toys is headline grabbing stuff, but their flawed hardware security shares much with the rest of the IoT.   This hardware hacking session, presented by Ken Munro, Partner, Pen Test Partners,will showhow recovering firmware from microcontrollers with embedded flash memory is possible, as well as microprocessors with external flash and RAM. Common hardware security issues will be addressed, and the audience will see how hackers approach hardware hacking, as well as understand the default security profile of many IoT devices
• What is Quantum Cybersecurity?  And Why It Matters: Dr Logan Mailloux, Assistant Professor, Systems Engineering, United States Air Force, will present on complex topics such as quantum cryptography, quantum key distribution, quantum computing, quantum algorithms, and quantum-safe encryption in an accessible way, with emphasis given to practical applications.
