Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA), an accredited Alternative Learning Experience program of the Omak School District, is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2019-2020 school year. WAVA is available tuition free to full-time and part-time students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Washington State.
Delivered entirely online, WAVA combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of Washington-certified teachers to provide a personalized learning experience for each student. WAVA students use their computers to attend live virtual classes and access a robust online curriculum. WAVA provides students the opportunity to learn from the safety of their homes with reduced distractions and increased parental involvement.
WAVAs rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, and art. In addition, the school offers supplemental learning support programs for advanced learners, English-language learners, and struggling elementary readers. Qualified middle school students are able to access high school coursework and get a head start on earning their required graduation credits.
WAVAs high school program encourages students to find their own path to post-high school success-whether that’s in two or four year colleges, technical colleges or in the workforce “ while earning their diploma. Honors classes are available along with a variety of career and technical electives. WAVA also offers two programs that allow students to earn college credit while in high school: Running Start offers dual enrollment at local colleges, while Tech Prep offers college-level technology and/or business courses. Each June, WAVAs high school holds a traditional face-to-face graduation ceremony in Tacoma.
WAVA strongly believes that every child is capable of success, said Mark Christiano, WAVA Head of School. When students enroll in WAVA, they join a vibrant online community of caring and dedicated teachers that work diligently to build strong relationships with their students. Schooling with WAVA helps students develop essential learning and life skills including perseverance, self-advocacy, and organizational skills.
Students at every grade level are encouraged to connect with their peers and participate in school-sponsored activities, such as online recognition assemblies and clubs, optional community outings and student leadership opportunities.
WAVA will host many in-person and online information sessions throughout the state during the spring and summer enrollment period. For more information and a list of upcoming events, please visit http://wava.k12.com.
