Southwestern Health Resources and Humana Announce Value-Based Agreement in North Texas


Southwestern Health Resources (SWHR) “ the clinically integrated network for University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern), Texas Health Resources, and more than 5,000 physicians and other clinicians “ and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nations leading health and well-being companies, are announcing a new, comprehensive agreement to better serve Humana Medicare Advantage HMO members in North Texas.

Effective January 1, 2021, the value-based care agreement builds upon an existing network contract that provides Humana HMO members access to approximately 30 hospitals and 350 points of care in 16 counties affiliated with UT Southwestern and Texas Health Resources.

The agreement with SWHR is in keeping with Humanas longstanding commitment to value-based care, which emphasizes:

  • More personal time with health professionals and personalized care that is tailored to each persons unique health situation;
  • Access to proactive health screenings and programs that are focused on preventing illness;
  • Improved care for people living with chronic conditions with a focus on avoiding health complications;
  • Leveraging technologies, such as data analytics, that connect physicians and help them work as a team to coordinate care around the patient; and
  • Reimbursement to physicians linked to the health outcomes of their patients rather than based solely on the quantity of services they provide (fee-for-service).

Canon Medical Offers New Liver Reporting Tool for Ultrasound


Liver disease is one of the major challenges in imaging today, and accurately determining compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) is extremely important in order to define the right treatment path. The recently updated guidelines from Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) introduced the Rule of Four, a standardized method of using four different levels of shear wave elastography-based liver stiffness to assess the probability of cACLD. To help easily and accurately determine cut off values, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc.s premium Aplio„¢ i-series ultrasound platform is now available with software to display the calculated measurement averages from multiple samples of the liver, customizable based on the Rule of Four.

The program uses measurements obtained with Shear Wave Elastography, Canon Medicals technology that provides a quantitative measure and dynamic visual display of tissue stiffness in the liver. In addition, the system provides standard deviation and interquartile range (IQR) data, as well as a simple visual propagation map, to ensure accurate and confident application of the Rule of Four to determine cACLD and for the assessment of other liver pathologies.

The new guidelines from SRU reinforce the importance of quickly and accurately determining cACLD, so that clinicians can chart the right course for patient care, said Dan Skyba, managing director, Ultrasound Business Unit, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc.
