OReilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today issued a new whitepaper, Employability and Adaptability: A New Mandate for Higher Education, which explores why colleges and universities must focus on adaptability and employability through continual learning for students to get the most value from their college experience. The whitepaper is available at this weeks Charleston Conference in Charleston, S.C., where OReilly is exhibiting at Table #5 on November 6, and via download on the OReilly website.
Rising tuition costs and a perceived lackluster return on investment have recently called into question the value of a college degree. In fact, almost half of the knowledge gained in the first year of a four-year degree is outdated by the time a student graduates, according to The World Economic Forum. Because of this, educators must make employability and adaptability primary goals that are integral to the college experience.
Learning for learnings sake is a noble concept but learning for employability must become a more central part of the college experience for todays students, said Karen Hebert-Maccaro, PhD, Chief Learning Experience Officer at OReilly and author of the whitepaper. The most successful higher education institutions will find good partners “ corporate and otherwise “ to gain insight, support and resources to support this charter and meet the demands of our quickly evolving workforce and society.
