#movethedial, a global movement dedicated to advancing the participation and leadership of all women* in technology, is proudly introducing the #movethedial Connect platform at todays inaugural #movethedial Global Summit. Connect will curate and facilitate authentic connections between women in tech who can benefit from the mentorship of accomplished global business leaders, and #movethedial champions.
For business leaders, establishing mentorship relationships can often mean dozens of coffee meetings or phone calls, only to discover that there is little to no authentic alignment between their focus and the needs of a prospective mentee. Featuring intelligent matching options, #movethedial Connect will establish and facilitate productive mentoring relationships based on several criteria, including shared values, interests, passions, and expertise. It will also enable mentees to set goals, track their progress, and gain guidance to prioritize and achieve important milestones.
Based on my own personal experiences throughout my career, I know that having access to a champion who is generous of spirit and motivated to go out of their way for you has the power to meaningfully change your life. However, finding the right mentor to align to your business goals can be challenging and time consuming for both parties, said Jodi Kovitz, CEO of #movethedial. By providing greater access to senior leaders who are intrinsically motivated to mentor and guide women who are aligned with their expertise, #movethedial Connect will serve as a platform to help our rapidly growing movement scale, save time in establishing successful mentorship relationships, and ultimately achieve our collective mission to move the dial and effect substantive change in the tech industry.
There are currently 85 champions in the #movethedial network and hundreds more across the 10,000 strong community that have expressed an interest in activation. These leaders genuinely want to ˜go out of their way to help women in tech gain access to opportunities and ultimately achieve their goals. #movethedial Connect will enable the movement to scale globally by facilitating more productive, authentic relationships while removing the administrative burden and enabling action – one small step at a time, to create big change.
In advance of the 2019 launch of the #movethedial Connect technology platform, industry leaders that want to become champions and women who are looking to establish a mentorship relationship can sign up for early access and participate in the Connect development and pilot community at movethedial.com/connect.
#movethedial Global Summit
The launch of #movethedial Connect is both timely and relevant given the overwhelming success of the highly anticipated #movethedial Global Summit taking place today in Toronto at Koerner Hall at the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning; and the #movethedial Global Summit Youth Experience for youth (ages 14 to 24) across all genders with an interest and passion for STEM, taking place this morning at the Masonic Temple.
As Canadas first diversity Summit, it is bringing together 800 executives and emerging leaders from across the technology and business ecosystem, and 200 youth “ all of which share a deep interest in technology, innovation. The event aims to inspire and empower attendees to unlock Canadas potential as the most inclusive technology ecosystem in the world.
The Summits highly diverse roster of insightful and inspiring speakers represent many of the worlds leading tech companies. The thoughtfully curated agenda features 50 executives, tech founders, funders, and youth “ the majority of which are women, half are people of colour, and includes members of the LGBTQ community. Speakers will tell their unique stories and share strategies, tools, and best practices to attract, support, and retain women in tech and those across other areas of diversity and inclusion.
I am so proud and excited by the diversity of thought featured at todays Global Summit, said Kovitz. With this incredible lineup of speakers, we are empowering attendees to be what they can see; inspiring them to harness their own potential and recognize how they can #movethedial for themselves and others by using small actions that add up to big change.
To date, the growth and power of #movethedial to connect people through storytelling has led to an estimated 10,000 people joining the movement across Canada and in the United States. In addition to Toronto, #movethedial has launched in seven markets over the past eight months, including Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York; with plans to make its debut in Europe and Asia in 2019.
