Please replace the release dated June 18, 2019 at 10:00am ET with the following corrected version due to multiple revisions.

The corrected release reads:

Presenting the Poster: Dr. Antonella Tosti, Worldwide Expert in Hair Disorders and Author of More Than 750 Scientific Publications

A poster session on the Effects of Cosmetic Products on Hair Resistance and Structure, was presented by Dr. Antonella Tosti, MD, a Fredric Brandt Endowed Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, at the 24th World Congress of Dermatology in Milan.

The focus of the poster is MONAT Global, whose Renew Shampoo and Restore Leave-in Conditioner were subjected to tests at Kosmoscience Laboratory to evaluate their impact on hair breakage and hair loss. The tests were performed on normal, virgin hair and chemically damaged hair, i.e. previously bleached or dyed. The tests results showed that MONATs products:

  • Do not cause hair breakage
  • Do not cause a loss of hair flexibility
  • Improve hair combability
  • Improve the structure of damaged hair

Specifically, the results of the tensile (strength) tests show that the tested hair products improved combability by reducing the mechanical resistance (combing force) of the hair.

In particular, the products did not cause hair breakage or loss of hair flexibility even when used on bleached, damaged hair. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis, which can achieve resolution better than one nanometer, showed that MONATs Renew Shampoo and Restore Leave-in Conditioner did not change the superficial structure of normal, virgin hair, including those treated with a flat iron and, in fact, improved the superficial structure of damaged bleached or dyed hair.

The poster fit in well with the scientific programming and lead to enlightening discussions for practical patient advice, said Dr. Tosti. I was pleased to be able to present the MONAT tests together with my colleagues, Lucienne Skalski Campos, Global Regulatory Affairs Sr. Manager – Claim & Safety Substantiation, B&R Products and Jamie S. Ross, Senior Vice President of Technical Services and Head of R&D for B&R Products, to many leaders in the field of dermatology and its related diseases.

Dr. Tosti is a founding member and past president of the European Hair Research Society, and Secretary and Treasurer of the North American Research Society, as well as a founding member and secretary of the International Society of Trichoscopy. She is the editor of four textbooks on diagnosis and treatment of hair disorders including Dermoscopy of Hair and Nails, the first hair and nail atlas on dermoscopy published. She is the author of more than 750 scientific publications and is a MONAT Scientific Advisory Board member.

The 24th World Congress of Dermatology was held June 11-15 in Milan, Italy. The World Congress of Dermatology is the most widely recognized, longest-running international dermatology gathering, held every four years, for the past 130 years, under the auspices of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS). ILDS oversees the sharing of scientific discoveries, as well as good practices, progresses achieved and their impact in clinical practice.
